    A/c compressor leak?

It's OK , my 1998 H-6 A/C compressor is still running fine at 25 years of age.

AC rebuild questions r12 or r134a retrofit

I did a conversion on a late father's 1988 C-2500 with R-12. Replaced all the seals, flushed mineral oil out, dumped the condenser for a new one. Replaced the orfice/adapers Flushed the R-4 compressor, added 8 oz of PAG 150 and charged with R-134A. At idle she was putting out 42 F at the vents.

    My A/C woes...

Did they add PAG-150 to the unit?

    A/c compressor leak?

Yours is the R-4 compressor. They tend to run a long time.

Check and make sure your water pump weep hole isn't leaking, Put some cardboard under the vehicle to see where it's leaking exactly. Might have a freeze plug leak.

    AC Compressor

Not my 1998 K-1500. It's just a standard two-door, three-person, long bed with nothing extra. Back window behind my head. Old-School, but so am I. LOL!!! I will indeed keep the Sanden in mind, as I do occasionally work on other people's auto A/C systems, although I am retired now. I have all...

Nice to know about the Sanden 4440 compressor. I'd never heard of them before.

96 Vortex 350 starting issues again.

Iridium spark plugs are the way to go. 60 to 100k miles is worth the extra money.

Talk me into, or out of, it...

I use YELP to find great auto and body shops. I don't usually use them, but the one auto shop was great and offered a 10% discount on labor for AAA and seniors. Yelp works great for other things as well. Dentists, doctors, attorneys; you name it.;)

    Another AC conversion question

Yeah, there are only three grades of PAG oil, I believe: 46, 100, and 150. Seems like a cop-out to use Ester oil to me too. When I converted an 1988 GMT-400 to use R-134A I replaced the receiver-dryer, a new orifice valve. Used PAG 150 oil, not Ester oil. Got the cab temperature down to 42 F...

    Bizarre ac behavior

What burns my hide is that R-134A was supposed to be so much better than R-12 freon was for the ozone. Now they are switching to the new R-1234YF refrigerant. Why in the blue blazes this is occurring is beyond me. It's also flammable and costs a lot more than R-134A.

    4l60e to nv4500 1995 rcsb 2wd

My 1998 Chevy K-1500 has the NV3500. It shifts very smoothly after all these years. The only issue I'v had is the reverse lights don't work. I replaced the switch in the NV 3500 transmission, but whatever pushes the ball in to engage the reverse lights doesn't work properly. It's getting power...

Looking to get more out of my 1988 C1500

One of the nice things about fuel-injected engines with ECM, is they adjust for altitude, thus not running rich, without re-jetting a carburetor, from sea level to high mountain roads and highways. I've rebuilt so many carburetors in my life, I never want to see one again. The last one I did was...

    Bizarre ac behavior

Make sense to me. I sure miss the old R-12. You could buy it in some places as low as .59 cents a can, when I was young. 22 PSI sounds about right to me for R-134A.

I wonder at what pressure the low-pressure sensor shuts the mag-clutch down?

Maybe enough of it would come out of the climate control box drain hose at the bottom of the firewall and drip on the ground?

    Bizarre ac behavior

Most likely you have a bad low-pressure switch. Your compressor should NOT be running with zero pressure. The L-P switch should have shut your magnetic clutch down. You need to make sure that your A/C compressor is not operating until the issue is solved. I'd buy or borrow an AC gauge set and...
