I have a 98 Chevy k2500HD with the 5.7 vortec and 4l80e transmission, the engine has 268k on the odometer its the second engine in this truck first blew with 330k I've been told. It's been severely beat by the previous owner (tons of burnouts and over loading it with weight) I've put about 4.2k in maintenance and buying it, I love this truck and would hate to sell it so I want to give it life. I'm going to Advanced individual Training for the army this summer for 10 weeks so I won't be able to work on it, i was planning on swapping the engine for a 6.0 with the drive train. The reason for this is I want something with a little more power and speed maybe better MPG (currently getting around 8.6) I don't know much about engines or just about anything so figured I'd ask to get opinions on my thoughts if I'm just a stupid teenager. Depending on what I'm doing I'm going to buy a beater so I can get to work and back either a gmt800 or something fuel efficient

Here is a good place to start. He does an excellent job especially with the wiring harness.
There are a TON of videos on YouTube and articles to read about these swaps.
People have been doing them for 20+ years now, all the bits and widgets are available at the click of a mouse. There are companies that will package everything you need minus the motor if you want or can afford.

Welcome to the rabbit hole of LS swaps!

I'd suggest replacing it with another 350, since that's what it already has in it. That'll be a big enough project. You don't want to start something so big that you let it drag on and on, or don't finish it up at all.

Won't matter....even GM put the same engines and transmissions in all the models. Don't overthink it.
In reality most of the difference between the 1500-3500 comes down to springs and maybe a beefier frame.
The factory is run by accountant's....they are not paying for minor differences that would stop the same drive line being used across the platforms.

Alright, yeah I was just wondering for performance since I'm not knowledgeable, if there was that much difference for a 5.3 or 6.0 and transmission mounting. I do plan on towing some stuff maybe not 4 tons but some yk

Yeah I understand that if I do replace it with another 350 would it be worth it to get it machine and rebuilt for longer lasting / performance stuff? Also a problem I've just recently had was finding an intake manifold for the 5.7 vortec so swapping to a tbi or the next gen for availability in parts/ supporting mods
