Rear [13"] drum Brake questions

Quick update: the truck is back up-and-running, albeit with the rusty backing plate. Axle shaft & diff cover NOT removed. Appreciate all the help; you guys and gals are great! Cheers.

Any one using these LED headlights?

I've installed LED lights (from eBay) in my truck and can confirm that they AREN'T ANY GOOD pretty much for the reasons outlined in post #5! :)

Yeah, quite possible. Sure hope so if I ever get that far. I actually bought a new cover for it a couple of years ago, but also then didn't attempt to remove the old one. Pretty soon the old cover will leak through....the metal is looking rather rusty and suspect. If I can find a reconditioned...

Found the GT5 code inside the glovebox. Luckily THAT label is still legible! Now for the hunt of a recon axle assembly....seem to plenty about for the 1500....2500 not so much. :(

Okay, looking at this axle I am now considering swapping for a rebuilt complete drive axle. Looks like there's three options: 4x4, semi-floating (9.5" ring gear), 3.42 axle ratio (opt GU6) 4x4, semi-floating (9.5" ring gear), 3.73 ratio (opt GT4) 4x4, semi-floating (9.5" ring gear), 4.10 ratio...

Thanks all for additional replies. Doesn't look like I will be able to do this axle-shaft removal this time 'round. The differential cover bolts are completely rusted solid, and likely will need drilling out and re-tapping/helicoiling. I will [reluctantly] put the old, rusted backing plate...

Thanks for the replies. 8600lbs, okay great. I guess the wrong size wheel cylinder were in there since I've owned the truck! :) How do I pull the axle shafts? Can't seem to find any info...
