In my opinion, it's not really competing. More like selling out to whoever can produce crap the cheapest. This is an American designed product that is used almost exclusively on American cars. It'd be competing if a Chinese manufacturer came up with a new muffler design that many people...
I agree that China is fully capable of making quality products. The junk they often produce probably has a lot to do with cheap consumers and companies wanting to maximize profits.
The quality of the Chinese Flowmaster actually seemed quite good, for now at least.
I think it's a moral issue for...
Occasionally I stop by a muffler shop that I used to work at and recently, I noticed that all the Flowmasters they've been getting in are Chinese manufactured. These are legit Flowmasters from a reputable supplier. I'm personally not a huge Flowmaster fan but I figured it might be interesting to...
I always forget to check this forum.
No worries, talk about all the Monte Carlo's you want. That '82 is sweet too.
I think I'm going to order a set of AFR 265cc heads on Monday. They're complete and partially CNC'd for a little over $2k.
Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus unfortunately. I have a lot of respect for the dude who suggested the Chinese heads but I'll probably pass on them.
I talked to a place that'll sell me a set of Edelbrock heads for $1600.
I requested valves only since I already bought springs.
"$1600...
The builder is a cool older dude I know. Friend of a friend. He's been building engines for a long time and seems to know his stuff.
I was gonna have Geddes do the machine work. I used to work right next door so I think he'll help me out some. Didn't get his opinion on the Chinese heads yet. Do...
A couple other questions:
I was gonna stick some LS1 injectors in place of the stock Multec ones before putting everything back together. Good idea or is there a better injector? Looking for something reasonable priced and the LS1 injectors are dirt cheap on Craigslist.
Also, today I was...
No updates yet. I stuck the cam in the other day and then decided to just rebuild the whole engine. Figured I got this far, might as well make sure the whole engine is solid. The truck has 155k miles on it and almost everything is original. I'll add my results to this thread when everything is...
I pulled the intake last night. The lifter and cam lobe are both pretty scored up. I was hoping to get away without having to change the cam but I had a feeling they were both toast. Oh well.
Never had a lifter go bad before. I expected things to look smoother but they were worn pretty rough...
Sounds like good advice. I want the truck to still have towing and hauling capabilities but maybe a slightly larger cam would be more worth my time.
That Howard looks pretty good.
Comp has a decent looking one too but their kit is so expensive.
