    Check the temp sensor. If it fails it reads 40 below and truck won't run. Cap and rotor i would change before pulling upper intake. That said it still kind of sounds like fuel but cap and rotor is easier than upper intake.

    A 77 z28 should be a 350. 87 would likely be a 305. If you are using a 77 2 piece rear seal block you need the flex plate with it.     The over 8600 gvw trucks seem to have a bigger diameter head pipes on the y pipe. That said your y pipe should work fine.
