Differential fluid for 14-bolt 10.5" gear with G80 Eaton Locker

I've read that other folks have used a gasket for the diff cover (lube locker or felpro) to handle the synthetic. So, if a gasket is used for the diff cover, would leaks possibly come from the pinion seal and/or end of axle seals on this FF axle when using synthetic?

Differential fluid for 14-bolt 10.5" gear with G80 Eaton Locker

Thanks Richard, Right on about the no additive. I got quite an education on that. This one is the Eaton mechanical centrifugal locker. When we first got it we got all the fluids changed and the Valvoline folks added the additive. We just got that straightened out at the GM dealership and they...

Differential fluid for 14-bolt 10.5" gear with G80 Eaton Locker

Our 1997 K2500 GMC Suburban has a 14-bolt rear differential with G80 locker. I would like clarification from folks familiar with this differential as to what fluids can be used. As I understand, this same exact differential has been used in many year models, and is still in use, and some...

    The Stupid Axle Questions Thread

Hi to all, Here are my dumb axle questions. Last year we acquired a 1997 GMC K2500 7.4L 4wd Suburban for towing a camper. It is 8-lug, GT4/3.73 with G80 locker, GVWR 8,600 lbs, with GAWR RR of 6,000 lbs for the rear axle. I hope this is a full floater rear axle but not positive. Are all the...

    1997 GMC K2500 Suburban 7.4L - interior electrical issue(s)

Issue resolved. Pwr-Accy fuse (fuse "A" in LH I/P fuse box) was not making correct contact. Fuse was ok when pulled but fuse box prongs had been previously bent to not make proper contact with both legs of the fuse. Problem corrected. We've had this vehicle only a few months, and its amazing...

    1997 GMC K2500 Suburban 7.4L - interior electrical issue(s)

Thanks twomanymontes. I've looked at several wiring diagrams that I found online. None of the diagrams were complete but they all had portions that covered the items that no longer work in my burb. All the power seems to start with fuses 3, 4 and/or 13, which all look good. I'm not super...

    1997 GMC K2500 Suburban 7.4L - interior electrical issue(s)

Hi all, Everything was ok electrically until a few days ago, and then the following items all became inoperative at (I think) the same time. I've checked all fuses that appear (from owners manual descriptions) to have anything to do with any of the problems, and all the fuses I've checked...

1997 GMC K2500 Suburban - no brakes in Z82/UY7 tow harness

I went to replace the 7-pin RV plug and old trailer plug wiring in our newly-purchased '97 GMC K2500 Suburban 7.4L. The 7-wire UY7/Z82 harness is in place and was in use by the previous owner but there is no brake signal in the green and yellow wires that carry the turn signals in that tow...

    1997 GMC K2500 Suburban - A/C button - no light - No A/C

Thanks great white for the info. The door banging has me puzzled but it happened so many times I'm sure I wasn't imagining it. I can check into that more later. I just wondered if anyone else had ever come across that. We got this 1997 because it is a 2500 7.4L for towing, but we've had a 1998...

    1997 GMC K2500 Suburban - A/C button - no light - No A/C

Hi to all, I'm new to this forum and I just acquired a 1997 GMC Suburban K2500 7.4L that I want to use as a tow vehicle. Its clean and rust free and I'm happy to have found it. I've checked everything I can think of on this vehicle and the only thing I can find that isn't working is the A/C...

    1997 GMC K2500 Suburban - A/C button - no light

The A/C button does stay in when pushed. The Recirculate button light does light when temp control full cold at the blue dot. The compressor clutch does not budge in A/C or Defrost. This vehicle is new to me, so I can't be sure if there is enough pressure to get past the low pressure cut out.

    1997 GMC K2500 Suburban - A/C button - no light

I've just acquired a 1997 GMC Suburban K2500 that I'd like to use as a tow vehicle. This burb seems to have been pretty well kept with most things working, but one thing not working is the A/C. When the A/C button is pressed on the control panel, the button light does not illuminate. Does...
