No I got everything ready 2 go for this weekend but I just thought about the DIC and 411... I figured since the express van wasnt equipped it wouldn't work... Plus I was too lazy to read through all these thread pages...

Set it 2 rear control and tuck the switch away... Just control it from the rear...

And our 411s are set up as chevy express vans not S10s (which im sure u already know)... so thats where im having trouble understanding if its gonna work or not..?

ok,, so i ran the light green wire from the sensor to the light green wire on the dic,,, than i ran power to the dick and nothing happens,,, i guess my dic is broke,,, (lol)

Nope. The s-10 DIC with MPG/etc will not work on a diesel at all. It requires the correct data feed before it will even boot up. When it sees "corrupt" (IE: missing or incorrect) data it will eventually just default to "ERR" or error.

The Diesel trucks don't have data like fuel level (and others) so the class 2 data stream is missing information. The DIC just says "nope, cant' do it".

Now, you CAN get temp and compass heading in the GMT400 overhead console. BUt you need to find one from the earlier s-10's that only do compass and temp. You also need a matching temp sensor for it as the later temp sensors have a different value which makes the reading incorrect when used on older DIC's.

Wiring is easy: 12v, ground, temp sensor, illumination and VSS info (needs VSS to apply temp correction for moving or sitting still).

The dic you need is identified by an "on/off" button:

You must be registered for see images attach

instead of a "mode" button:

You must be registered for see images

How do I know?

I have a temp/compass one in my overhead console. I also tried to convert to the MPG model but no joy. I even tried fooling it but it will not work without hte right data.

Good news is that the older dic's with only temp and compass go pretty cheap if you watch 'Bay. Bad news is they are becoming less and less easier to find (getting old).

Cheers.

(apologies if this info was already posted, didn't read through the whole monster thread)

The consoles with rear air have a larger pocket where the dic goes than a console without. You'll have to change consoles too....

O snaps great whites back... I had questions for u a few months back but forgot wat they were... O well stick around....

And yea like the guys said the OHC with rear a/c are larger pockets... The DIC will not fit... But there are OHC from gmt400 silvi's and Sierras that are the same length with the correct pocket size for a DIC its just got a delete cover on it thay can b removed... The s10 blazers OHC has a weird hump in it that wont sit flush in our trucks so I'd steer clear of them...

Pro: you put it where you want it

Cons: making look like it is supposed to be there.

They are an odd shape for cover and buttons, that will make it difficult to find a place to make it look right.

But, if you're careful and take your time, anything can be made to work....
