Plus repairs on the nnbs..

That's true, but see, to people who buy a "newer" car or truck that's the whole point of the monthly payment, is they're investing in something that repair bills will hopefully be far and few between on. It looks like a solid truck that won't have any major problems for a while but the way I see it, if you took that $400/month note and continuously invested it in a 400 you could easily have the ultimate truck...The biggest problems you could encounter is the drivetrain engine/trans/gears/tires things like this...Yeah the frame and body is old but it's just sheet metal and we don't get rust here in the south so really once you invest in a solid motor/trans you're pretty much golden. It's easy to make these trucks get good gas mileage as well with a tune up and the right gearing. My beef is people constantly ditch an older car and take on a truck note because the older car that's paid for was costing them too much but in reality they're paying a ton more just for the re assurance that some little something won't break, and in reality it's way cheaper to fix their car and keep on. The problem is people don't care enough for their used cars like some of us care for our 400's. That's just my point of view I think the nnbs is pure awesome but I had to state my case purely from a $ spending perspective.

I'd rather have something with steel bumpers than plastic ones.

I'm worried about safety and reliability, there's never been a day where my truck didn't start, even the coldest day of horrible winter storm, it started up like a well built truck should.

My 15 year old trans with 225,000 miles, is JUST NOW starting to slip, as a matter of fact, hooked it up to the Tech II at work, it slips .44 seconds inbetween 1-2 gears, .36 inbetween 2-3 gears, and .29 inbetween 3-4 gears. It throws a P1870 code which is a Transmission Component Slippage stored code, but in 1996 there was a bulletin about a poor internal ground between the 2 circuit boards of the VCM that causes erratic line pressure at the pressure control (PC).

The P/N is 12167310, its a harness jumper wire and instruction kit.

Do some of yall think that just because there is a plastic cover on a bumper that there is no protection what so ever? There is just as much steel behind there as there is in your fancy gmt400 bumper. You are not losing protection by going to a newer truck but you are gaining safety, believe it or not in the past 2 generations of gm trucks there have been huge developments in the safety department.

Ya but everytime your truck doesn't start or starts missing on the highway I bet you pray that it will still be able to get you to your yards in the morning so you can make money. It is not all about the cost factor for everyone. I, for example, know that with my current school schedule and everything going on in my life that if my truck were to break I would not have the time to fix it, the space to fix it, or the time/money to take it to a shop to get fixed. So although you may be spending more money monthly the benefits far outweight the costs for a lot of people.

I just hate plastic on the exterior of anything that I go 70-75 MPH in, it doesn't take much to break that plastic, and it's a **** ton to replace. If someone decides to smash my GMT400 bumper with an ax, then I will find another one (OEM) for $50 bucks.

The nnbs plastic front can stand just as much as our metal fronts. I know that from riding with dad at 70-75 it is the same as 70-75 in the obs. The nnbs does have a lot more power and seems to be just a reliable as the obs, but with more get up and go and with a litle bit better fuel mpg but thats my $.02

Dirty what can I say you have made 2 excellent points I won't argue you on and I agree there are always two sides to anything like this but that was just my opinion/experience since I've owned a 15 year old truck since 02'. I know what it takes to own a truck like this but I'll tell ya one thing I have NEVER been scared this truck wouldn't start (unless a dead battery) but in the 9 (going on 10) years I've owned this truck it has never ever once left me stranded. My first engine burnt 5 quarts of oil ever 200 miles, it got empty and near low countless times never died pulled it out replaced with a terrible decision $300 craigslist motor that developed a horrible rod knock and immediately knocked out reverse in my transmission...That knocked me down so bad I don't even want to think about it but I drove the dang thing around for a YEAR with a heavy rod knock and no reverse...Never once did it not do what I needed it to. Now finally I have overcome all of that with a good combo...Most of it was terrible decision making on my part with that 2nd engine because it took so much time and energy getting it in but also I agree with rhamill I don't care for a plastic appearing bumper. Give me steel. Give me old school, give me american muscle.

Ya it wasn't meant as an argumentative statement but more of just another side to view it from. If I had the time and resources at my expense I would gladly take a paid off vehicle that needs work now and then over something I am making payments on and never needs work. I love working on vehicles and if it didn't mean almost guaranteed ****** pay for the rest of my life I would be doing that right now. One of the main reasons I keep my land rover around is because it is always needing something worked on, and it keeps me learning more and more things about vehicles.
