I could deal with 4.10's and a 4L60E if I had too, but I hate it with an 80, since it has a slightly less OD.

yeah the OD in the 80e kinda sucks. first gear isn't too great either. but the 80e is built like a tank, can't say that about the 60e for sure....'eh all the more reason I love manual transmissions. heh

Ok I know this thread is a little old, but I've a 350 with a few mods, and I have a 5 speed standard. I'm going to gear it...I do a lot of highway.3:73s still the best for me? I'm running 235/75/15s on front and 275/60/15s on rear.

I went from 3.42's to 3.73's, with a 29.5" tall tire. (295/40-20) Really woke up the performance, but it killed my mileage. Around town the gear change didn't affect the mileage a whole lot, but freeway entrance ramps, & passing on the highway, at speed, was amazing compared to what it was before the change. Had to get used to the sound of the engine buzzing a little higher when going more than 45mph.
