3.73's would be good IMO. I don't know the v6's very well, but a good cruise RPM for a 5.7 TBI is 2100 RPM at 70 IMO.

thanks sewlow, ive been trying to find the right tire size forever. Any thoughts on tire brand? i damn sure dont need z rated, I need milage, this is my daily driver. my front tires are roughly 28 in and the rears are around 29 in tall. Ive been on discount tires web page, they have a tire size calculator, trying to get the right size

I was limited to 1 choice, Toyo Proxes II, because that they are the only co. that makes the sizes I wanted, in a matching tread & construction design. They're pretty good. Better when they are warm. Can't remember what they're speed rating is. Not a 'Z', though. I've been on tires that can hold better, but then, those don't last.
Steve's Discount Wheels gave me the best price by far. They do a ton of on-line sales. I'd buy from them again, no hesitation.

3.73 are the happy medium. good highway rpm and when you kick it in the ass it responds quickly. My buddy has a Dodge(he loves sheep) and he has 4.10 gears. We both have 33'' tires and his truck will spin those tires a hell of alot better than mine but ill kill him in a drag race. 4.10 is very hard on the gas tank too

Yeah I have owned 2 truck's with 4.10's one with 29 inch tall tire's, it was terrible, 3k at 68 mph, and it was a 6.5TD that redlined at 3500 rpm's.

those numbers don't seem right, were you keeping it out of OD?

by my calculation, a 29" tire, 4.10's, spinning 3k rpm with a 4L60e would be going 63mph in 3rd, 90mph in OD, and with a 4L80e, it'd be going 84mph in OD

That's in OD with a 4L80E. My other truck had the same rearend and trans and was the same until I put 33's on it and dropped to 2500rpm's at 68ish.
