My old '96 K1500 got at best 21mpg on the 4 lane. This is holding a speed of about 120km/h (around 75mph). I'd let off to around 110 for any major hills. It was a 350 auto with 3.42s, 4wd. The worst I ever got was just over 15, loaded with around half a ton of firewood in city traffic. For the most part with country driving, some loaded and some offroad, I was in the 17-19 range. Man that truck was good on fuel for the work it would do.
My current '96 K2500 gets around 13.5, but I haven't calculated it on a long highway trip yet. That's mostly country roads, where I was getting about 18 with my old half ton. It's a 350 auto with 4.11s (has a cold air intake and a decent dynomax exhaust). I also only run supreme (91 octane, at around $1.45/litre at the local store, compared to around $1.37 for regular), and I don't have an overly heavy foot. My mileage drops a lot if I give 'er when I get going. Also passing new F-250s on the 4 lane cuts my mileage a lot, but is totally worth it...blew the doors off one the other day lol
