I'm just wondering if anybody has towed a camper or boat with 35's and 4.56 or 4.88's. I'm leaning towards getting 4.88's on my rig for the power, but I'm also concerned they may be too deep. Any help or input would be appreciated. Details on my rig in my sig. Talking about the '97 btw.

id say the 4.56s IMO in all reality 35s on these trucks and 4.11s are perfect combo , but 4.56s would make up for the extra weight i think 4.88 seem a little extreme again this is just my opinion

I agree with Don. I've got 33's with 3.42's and honestly I didn't notice much of anything when I switched from 265's. The weight of the tires will make a big difference too, from brand to brand.

Personally I've had 4.56s with 33 and 37s. I loved it with 33s but idk if I would want to DD with it but I probably would if I planned on towing alot. So my answer if you plan on towing a good bit... Go with 4.88s.

Well she's not a DD, I only use her for hunting, fishing, camping, and going to the beach.

fwiw i had 5.13's in my nbs with 37's i hated towing with it , around town it was amazing but highway towing it was tacked out..... but loved the normal driving, you tow in 3rd not OD, so a higher gear will be better in my opinion either 410,430,or456 with 35's imo..... they probably only measure a big 33-34

Unless your towing ALL the time, 4.56s will give you the best power to economy with 35s.

I did the SAS on my truck and kept the 3.73s when I put 35s on it. It was still a 700R4 back then, and it was OK but I only towed on occasion and when I did it wasn't fun.

Then I bought my 19' camp trailer. At that point I had installed a NV4500 but still had 3.73s. It was a struggle with the trailer being such a wind drag. Headwinds were a solid 40MPH, same with hills.

After a few months I went to 4.56s. It helped a good deal all around, trailer towed better could usually keep 55MPH up hills and in winds no problem. At that point it was the motor lacking power, not gearing. The truck and trailer together weighted just a smidge under 10k.

Swapped in a mildly built 454. As it sits now, truck and trailer with quads and tongue extension weigh in around 12k. With my gearing I can keep 75MPH no problem, 60 in headwinds and up steep hills, all while maintaining 9.2MPG.
