I have a 96 silverado 1/2 ton 2wd with the 5.7 vortec 39k miles. Would it be ok to pull my 28ft travel trailer 5190 lbs dry. Probably around 6000lbs loaded with gear. It would be pulled 5-6 times a year. Tips suggestions etc?? Thanks!!

It will pull it, and have enough brakes for the combination, if they are in good working order. You need a trailer brake controller installed to operate the trailer brakes.

I would suggest a weight distributing hitch at the minimum. Pressure washing out the radiator and AC condenser if equipped, will help keep temperatures down.

What gear ratio and transmission do you have? If you have larger than stock tires and high gears, you will not be able to pull it well. 30" tire with 3.73's is a nice combo.

The most sketchy thing is if you have an ECSB, it won't be very stable in the wind compared to a longer wheelbase.

I do have a weight distribution hitch so that will help. I do need to get a trailer brake controller installed.

Not sure on transmission or gratio is there anyway to tell off of vin or tag in the glove box? It has stock wheels with stock size tires 265/70/15s

It is an ECSB but weight distribution should help with a little right?

With a weight distribution hitch, it will be a lot less sketchy.

You need to do a search of GM RPO code list and check your glove box label to find out what you have for a gear ratio. Once you have the list, it will tell you a lot more about your vehicle.

ECSB will do nicely. I thought you might have been someone from another site with that mileage who has an RCSB. GT3 = 3.42 and GT4 = 3.73. There are GU codes too, but I don't remember those off hand.
