Did the NP241s all have the same spline counts on the output side?

i.e
Can I use my driveshaft from the 94, 5-speed,np241
in the 97 with the 4l60e/np241

All I'd need is a conversion u-joint for the 10b/14b change?

The Chevy NP241 is supplied with a 27 spline female input or a 32 spline female input. With a T350, 4L60E or 700R4 tranny, it will be 27 spline. With a T400 or 4L80E trans or 5 speed, it will be 32 spline. Outputs should all be the same 23 spline.

:waytogo: Thanks sir, so driveshafts should slip right in on that end.
So would I need a conversion u-joint, or just the correct u-joint for the 14b side?

Should be a 9.25 if it's a "real" 2500 and not one one of the "in between" 2500's.

Whats the gvwr? If it's 8600lbs you've got the 9.25

Another way to tell is the wheel lug count. 8 lug wheels = 9.25

Is there another name I should look for when buying parts? Like GM call's it a 10.5" rear axle but everyone else in the known universe calls it a "GM Corporate 14-bolt" or just "14-bolt" in the rear.

theres two versions of the 14 bolt, the 6 lug 9.25 and then 8 lug 10.5. the 10.5 is also called corporate but id ask the person to be sure as many people confuse them and think a 14 bolt is just a 14 bolt.

When ordering parts they go by the ring gear sizing.

So officially its the 9.5, 10.5 and theres even an 11.5 out there in the AAM years.

They all have 14 bolt rear end covers.

The 9.5 is the most odd man out because it's a semifloat design and the cover shape is different.

The 10.5 and 11.5 are both full float axles and iirc the covers are also the same.

The problem is that people started "slanging" 14 bolt a long time ago and it's stuck. Now you could be referring to three different axles.

And when you say 14 bolt to the counter guy he's going to say "yeah, but which one?"

You can be looking for brakes, seals, bearings, etc and they are different between the 3. 14 bolt just doesn't cut it other than drinking beer and bench racing.

Kind of like OBS, NBS, NNBS, NNNBS, etc. Or smooth body, square body, etc.

People use corporate for when GM built axles in house. But it was still by ring gear size. AAM took over the axle division from GM a while back (or the axle division split off GM, can't recall exactly) and now it's considered an AAM 10.5, AAM 11.5

Still goes by ring gear, but AAM has made some minor improvements in areas.

It just gets all jacked up when you start making up names for stuff instead of calling it what it actually is....you're better off just forgetting all that 14 bolt BS....

So next year I am planning a solid axle swap. I am planning using a ford 77-79 dana axle. Now how do I do the 6 lug conversion?
