Wikipedia says they all got RWAL 88-94 Both 4wd and 2wd versions. Which has potential to be much better than a simple load sensing valve. So there is that...

Now I'm out on really thin ice here.... But assuming 15" wheels are prefered. The biggest badest  front discs that will fit inside those wheels are going to be about 12"... Now, and help me out here... Vans have a 12" one piece disc that is rather thick and has a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. Does the C1500 spindle pin share dimensions with the Van? I think some C10's do... If so a van disc with PBR style two piston calipers (GMT800 and others) might be a GM parts bin option...
IF, the van disc offset is such that it can be made to work. The master cylinder could be a challenge though. Preferably with a bore size matching the calipers while also made for rear drums.... Maybe take everything from a van and settle for single piston calipers.

Edit: While writing the above I realized that most likely there had to have been a factory C1500 HD brake option that used 12(11,9)×1.285" discs?

And for sure there was and then some...:doh2:

Just thinking out loud here, if the main objective is better brakes and “custom machine work” is already being considered. Couldn’t you have a flange made that fits the 1/2 ton suburban backing plate for your current axle? then everything from the backing plates out is available at Rockauto.

The sporadic research I’ve done in this subject has led me down that road. Wanting better brakes but wanting to retain 5 lug 15”. That’s if a 1/2 ton suburban rear end can’t be had.

There appear to be a fair bit of missinformation floating around regarding the front disc sizes. If I limit my search to 6 bolt k1500, based on rock auto specs. There seem to be only two different discs to choose from, they are both ~11.6" in diameter and vented but either 1" or ~1.29 thick
Raybestos pn's 5977R & 580438R
I would say that maybe the 1" corresponds to JB3, and the other to JB5 & JB6.
For five bolt c1500's it is the same deal but obviously different part numbers: Raybestos 5976R & 8004R

Everyting else get more lugs, and is.12,5" in diameter (maybe even bigger?)
I was unable to find any 11.86" discs for either k1500 or c1500. Only looked up the numbers for 350 equipped vehicles from 1990 though.

Raybestos 5006R is an example of the 11,86" Van disc (for G10 and maybe G20 too) I was refering to in my previous post.

Use the ac delco cataog for this search or the raybestos catalog. They are better suited for it

i also checked the service data parts listing for a 1990 K1500 with a 350, the front on both a C1500 and K1500 are 2 different part numbers. The only distinction is one is a hub/rotor combo (2wd) and the other is just the hat (4wd). The calipers are the same story. The rear drums is where the difference in part numbers expands.
