What are the benefits if any, to convert from an SM465 to an NV4500? The truck is a 1990 Chevrolet C2500, 2wd, 3:73 gears, 8 lug and 245/75/16 tires. It has the 5.7 350 tbi and gvwr of 8600 lbs. I know i would get overdrive. But would the cost be worth it? I am only going to use it locally, to work and around town. Occasionally going on a long distance trip with a trailer/car hauler. This is strange, but the previous owner said it came from the factory without cats. These are the two transmission rpo's it has: M20 and MM4.

I am currently doing this swap. My truck is a little different though. 454 BBC with 4.10 gears. truck screams at 70 on the interstate. i am simply doing the swap for the .73 overdrive 5th gear. I read it Is very worth it when doing Highway driving.

Surely a cowboy from hell wouldn't have a use for OD... It would be well worth it IMO, just for the overdrive

I put a nv4500 in my 95. Got rid of 4L60. I wanted the overdrive as I do highway and 456 with 38 boggers I'm at 1800 rpm at 65 on the highway. I'm sure I get a minor amount better fuel economy but my main focus was the engine not screaming at highway speeds.
