So you can't properly preload the ball joints without the special tool?

Unless you can judge 50ft/lbs with a hammer and chisel. You can easily make a tool to fit th preload nut out of a deep 3/4" socket.

If I remember right the proper way to do the balljoints is to just thread the upper balljoint adjusters into the housing, slide in the knuckle and tighten up the lower balljoint. Then torque the adjusting sleeve down, then torque lower ball joint and finally the upper balljoint nut.

Did you use the 10 bolt axle shafts or the ones that were already in the Dana 44??
