1995 c1500 with 2 inch spindles, 2 inch springs, and a flip kit out back.

Unknown components. Was done prior to purchase.

The rear flip kit doesn't really touch the axle, only the old leaf spring pad. There about a 1/2 inch gap to the axle tube.

Is that normal?

I think that's a McGaughy's kit, maybe the #33137 kit or something.

But no, it's not normal. It seems as if the axle tube diameter is larger than the diameter of that notch in the flip kit part (which is suppose to set pinion angle). It's supposed to sit evenly throughout the whole radius.

See attached picture. Mine is a welded on perch but it's the same principle. Yours doesn't absolutely need to be welded on once fitted correctly.

What you can do is see about getting a correct fitting one to that sized axle tube diameter or resize it with a grinder.

Will do. I installed a belltech flip kit on a friend's truck over the weekend and i realized just how wrong this is.

When i pull the bed this weekend, we're going to have to fix it.
