Between the next two days I need to decide between two almost identical trucks and I need some advice.
1996 GMC Sierra Z71
114,000 miles
towing package
5.7l
4x4 on the floor
Freshly changed oil
trans flushed
new alternater
new brakes
new front suspension parts
new Falken rocky mountain tires
cloth interior
power locks and windows
16" polished aluminum rims
a couple small rust spots

1998 GMC Sierra
144,000 miles
5.7l
4x4 push button
true dual exhaust
power locks and windows
leather interior
hardly any rust
17" black micky thompson rims
roll on bed liner on bottom door panels
Both front hub assemblies,
pitman arm,
idler arm,
ball joints have been replaced

i wouldn't want to deal with the rust but it also depends on $$$$

id would say the first one...i prefer the floor shifter over electronic push button plus the first one has lower miles... but then on the other hand from the pictures the first ones looks to have more rust but also like smur1 said depends on what they are wanting for the trucks.

Go with the no-rust! Miles are just a number.

The 1998 is 3,800 and the 1996 is 4,100.

You don't think the miles are a big deal? I'm test driving the 96 tomorrow night and the 98 saturday afternoon.

30k isn't that much difference at all over 15-17 years. My 98 had 112k on it when I bought it in September...it looked clean, but the transmission, rear axle, and front end were fvcked. And it had a water leak in the cab and radiator leak. Any OBS under 250k miles is a shot in the dark on condition.

If the rust is an easy repair, go for that one. Offer 4 for it.

All right thanks guys! I'll keep you updated, this will be my first real truck I drive my dads truck to school and work so this is a big decision.
