If you don't have an open element air cleaner, spray carb cleaner at the intake and TB base to see if the idle jumps to find vacuum leaks.

It's a stock air cleaner. The tach kinda already jumps at idle. So.. umm. Maybe just replace the gasket anyways. Then check for vacuum leaks. Fix that u joint?

If it's killing you, sure. First is get that idle down. That may be the only thing wrong.
