Here is a video showing what i get the lucky job of doing at work. Exact same groover to. For your average joe that grooves tires once a year or whatever, the summit groover is great but a couple tires a day calls for a ril-fit. No preheating just set the blade and go.

Don't get me wrong. It worked fine without preheating. But I don't plan on buying 100 blades so the 12 it came with I wanted to make last for a while. You could feel the difference with the heated rubber. It was a lot easier. I did all 4 boggers in about an hour and 15 min.
