Is every state different for the painted-corners thing? I would love to black out mine. Anyone have any idea about Iowa? Chances are its illegal here... almost everything is if you ask!

I can't say 100%, but most states, if not all, are going to follow the Federal standards when it comes to a lot of the equipment and the Feds require front amber sidemarkers. That said, I drove around with my sidemarkers painted for several years when my truck was a daily driver and I never once had any issues.

I know here in amarillo TX if the side market isn't working or can't be seen it won't pass inspection

Unless you're issued a new title because of a rebuild. And even then the only thing they check for is stolen parts.

I'd hate to live in Cali or any of those other places where you have to meet emissions and all that jazz...

You don't need to be inspected here!

But if you know people, inspections aren't an issue. With painted sidemarkers, illegal tint and illegal taillights, I never had a problem getting inspection stickers.

It's the cops on the streets you have to be concerned about. Most probably won't care at all, but there's always the chance of running into "that" guy.

Any idea of what the fines are? Or is it just a "fix it"? I suppose that depends on what kind of cop it is too.

Fines will vary by jurisdiction, but it would more than likely be a fix-it ticket as most equipment violations tend to be.
