Loose steering box? That's my first thought, but could be anything from dry ball joints to a crack in the frame, to anything else in the steering components.
Gotta get it up in the air and start checking & looking.

I have had ball joints make a snapping noise when the wheel is turned. Wheels bearings as well. Best thing to do is jack it up and give everything a good shake down.

I feel a "crack" in mine too
Its common for the coupler inside the steering column to come loose on these trucks.
The solution is to totally take apart the steering column. Wheel and all. And simply re-torque the bolts with lock tight.... so ill be doing that next week. I'll let you know if it works

turns our the "cracking" or click was the pollyfiber ball/universal joint style coupler behind the wheel assembly... its just worn out and clicking... the plastic didnt look cracked but a little bit of oil helped...
