Put an inline spark tester between your coil and cap and see if you're losing spark while it's acting up at idle.

I'm 3.5 hours away from home, and it's a long weekend, a small shop managed to squeeze me in tomorrow at 12, said they'll do some tests, tell me what's wrong and go from there

A parts store might have one.

Did you ever do the tune up mentioned early in the thread? I really think it's the ignition coil.

Parts places are all closed here but I got plugs and wires, maybe if I'm lucky a napa will be open and have an ignition coil

Pulled all my wires off and inspected them all found a few like this

You must be registered for see images

Rusty on the inside

Pulled the coil wire off and found the centre contact to be very corroded

Inside the distributor was surprisingly beat up for only being 10,000km old
