think so bud,
also
4.88 on a 29" tire.. wtf? lol

hell yeah!....its because I have a T56 transmission....I pull ~2250RPM going 80mph in 6th gear (second overdrive) which is less RPMs than I was at when I had 3.73's and the 4L60e....if I were running a 60e or 80e or something 4.88s would be WAY too much gear for a DD on 29" tires.

whast your motor sound like when your doing 60mph
not sure if this is for me, but at 60mph, I'm spinning around 1800 rpm so it sounds pretty low and mellow.

thats a crazy gear no wonder why you need the t56

I actually had the T56 in before I put in the 4.88's, so I did have the T56 with 3.73's for a while, which was okay, it worked, but 6th gear was practically unusable, I was only spinning something like 1300 rpm going 60mph in 6th, and I live in a mountainous area, so it was out of the torque curve and would bog way down trying to climb even slight inclines on the freeway, I dropped to like an average of 11mpg. but the 4.88's are just right, 4.56's would have been good too, but for all the hills and such around here the little bit of extra gear helps, after the gear swap, I'm back up averaging in the high 15's and low 16mpg, thats with the 4.88's and a blower and 40# injectors and such, which is just about the same as I had bone stock, but with alot more power now :D

i wouldnt have bothered

It really came out good since I didn't pay for the gears or the posi install my little brothers shop did the work. My 3.42 gears had a chip off of them that I didn't even know of till they were installing the posi.

i have 4.11s on my 91 with a 7004r currently. no problems at all and i loveeee it. its not my daily driver any more, but it was when i had the 4.11s and posi installed. both of those were definitely worth it. it gave it a lot more jump off the line. i was using around 26-27 inch tire.

also this will not affect your tranny, 700r4s are not electronically controlled like the 4l60e. the only thing controlled electronically is the torque converter lock up. at 70 mph, my rpms only jumped up about 500.

but if u do this and ur planning on a cam, id recommend getting a torque converter with a higher stall speed as well, so everything will match up.
