I have a 97 scsb 5.7 and nv3500 transmission. I use the truck for day to day use and would like to start towing my race car. Would a 3.73 swap be of benefit to me? Would just get 10 bolt diff off junkyard truck to swap over. I think I would be towing approx 5,000 lbs. (nissan 350z and normal steel trailer)

Absolutely and super easy Saturday project too if you dont have to open up the diff.

It would definitely help. If you're already going to the trouble to swap rears though I'd at least consider upgrading to a 14 bolt for the sake of durability.

I swapped my 3.08s out for 3.42s when I rebuilt mine and it made a significant difference pulling a trailer, and not pulling a trailer lol. Not enough change to kill hwy mileage but enough to make it feel right. 3.73 will probably be the way to go if pulling a car on a car trailer all the time.
