Swap 5.7 vortec in Jeep CJ7

I have a 0411 from him that I never used. I lost the paperwork/email that showed the pinout. It needs the 4l80E deleted. I;m running a TH400 in the jeep. I don't have the part of the harness that has the OBD2 port. Is there a workaround?

Swap 5.7 vortec in Jeep CJ7

I have a complete 5.7 with ecm and engine wiring harness from a 97 truck that I want to swap into a jeep CJ 7. I do not have the interior harness. Which wires do I have to connect to get it to run? Does anyone know or can point me in the right direction to run this engine in a stand alone...

Being that I am doing a full rebuild and haven't purchased any parts yet working with a engine tuners and machine shop's recommendations will be the key to my goal.

max torque and fuel mileage from a 454

I am shooting for 15 mpg on the highway. I was planning on using Gibson headers with a aftermarket muffler. Also improvements in the airflow and fuel delivery. I was thinking of a good torque producing camshaft, 36lb injectors, and mild port work on the heads. Lastly, tuning the 411 pcm to...

max torque and fuel mileage from a 454

Building a 97 l29 454 for my suburban that has a nv4500, 3.73 gears and 31 inch tires. So I am looking for the best highway mileage and torque with this build. What recommendations do you guys have for cams, fuel injectors, machine work to the heads, tunes, and anything else.

    99 Suburban LT K1500 - Slow build

Excellent looking suburban. I have a 1997 K2500 suburban that I am working on. Three years ago my 4l80e toasted and I swapped in a Nv4500 5 speed. Just picked up a donor suburban with a 454. Going to rebuild it and swap in next summer. Can you elaborate how you removed the trim on the sides of...

    L31 350 to (L21 or L29) 454

I want to say you will have to use the 454/4l80e harness you have for question 2. Question 3... Any 4l80e should work as long as the splines and transfer case will marry and has a place for all the connectors. I think as long as you got a 96 and up trans you will be ok. Question 4. No adapter...

    Time for a SAS!

I have a Ford Dana 60 in my garage and was thinking about converting my k2500 suburban to a front solid axle. I changed my mind though. The cost to regear and rebuild the axle plus all the suspension/steering parts is too much. I only drive mine on the beach in the outer banks anyway. I am...

    sbc 400 in a 97 suburban

Yeah I ditched the sbc 400 idea. Without a roller cam, I don't think the 400 would make the torque and horsepower at lower rpms. The thicker harmonic balancer also had me worried. I will build a 383 or do a 6.0 liter swap. I like the stroker kits that Texas Speed sells for the 6.0!

    sbc 400 in a 97 suburban

I don't want my truck to be down for more than a weekend or two, so i would need to have the new longblock on the stand ready to go. I called 3 machine shops in the area, Two were backed up with race engines and told me to buy a crate motor. The last one wants to assemble the short block which...

    sbc 400 in a 97 suburban

No apologies needed. I learn something new on every post. I have only built a couple of carbed motors so I am like a sponge trying to soak up info. The reason I am asking about this 400 is that it does not need a rebuild and is basically free to me. It looks that there isn't any benefit power...

    sbc 400 in a 97 suburban

No electric fans for me. I am wanting to do this upgrade for better towing. I just recently installed the hd radiator, waterpump and fan clutch. My L31 has 248,000 miles is a little tired and is leaking oil. My friend has offered his sbc 400 to me and i would like to make it work if it doesn't...

    sbc 400 in a 97 suburban

efi connection sells a billet timing cover for early sbc engines with a provision for the crank sensor. The plastic one is supposed to leak on early blocks. They suggest a timing chain with a thin crank gear such as a single roller to allow for the reluctor wheel. I read somewhere that the...

    sbc 400 in a 97 suburban

I mean flexplate. I would like to retain the fuel injection. I have the 4l80e trans and I want my cruise control to work.

    sbc 400 in a 97 suburban

So far I have found that steam holes will have to be drilled in the vortec heads (just match the head gasket and drill the holes, takes 15 minutes.) If you swap a roller cam in you need a cam button, but the plastic timing cover that is needed for the crank sensor/reluctor wheel would probably...

    sbc 400 in a 97 suburban

I have been doing some searching and can't find the answers I need. Can I take a late 70's small block 400 shortblock and bolt vortec heads to it? Will my stock fuel injection, distributor, sensors, 4l80e trans, exhaust and accessories work with that setup? I know that I will have to get the...

    Transmission cooler for the 4l80e

Thanks for the replies I ended up putting a tru cool max in series with the stock cooler. I had to relocate the horn. I haven't towed with it yet But I can see a difference in temps already. I also upgraded to the hd radiator which is a 2 row 2 1/4" thick, new severe duty fan clutch, new 16lb...

    Transmission cooler for the 4l80e

What aftermarket coolers are recomended for the 4l80e. I have a 97 k2500 suburban 5.7liter,4l80e,4.10 gear and towed my 7000lb travel trailer for the first time. The trans warmed up to 210 degrees and would not shift into overdrive. I turned 3000rpms at 60 mph constant. Also I know the engine...
