I have three issues but I'm almost done.First issue is I broke one of my fuel injector tips off.Ordered a new one.How do you change these? Hopefully it just comes out when I undo those little screws.Second thing is my serpentine belt wouldn't go on at the crank pulley and water pump pulley. The two pulleys aren't touching but almost. Not enough room to squeeze it in between the two pulleys without un bolting the water pump pulley and feeding the belt through then tightening the pulley. It's wired, maybe a bent pulley? Last issue is the ground strap on the passenger side that looks like a flat skinny gasket.Does it bolt to the tranny bolts or head? When I tried to start the new motor it didn't start and that ground strap got real hot and smoked just a bit.The battery ground got hot too.Maybe my broken fuel injector I found was causing a short? Right now the ground strap is on the frame to tranny bolt.Thanks,Dan.

The individual injectors will just come out of the spider, no biggie. The pulley shouldn't be that close. Did you use the same belt drive? If the braided strap and the body ground are both getting hot then you have an issue with the negative cable not having a good connection to the block. It should be bolted low on the block to one of the two bolts to the passenger side of the crank pulley. You may have to sand a bit of paint off to get a good connection. The braided strap would have been bolted to the back of the head but to the bell housing is fine.

The ht383 is vortec based. It is the same block and heads as the standard 5.7 Vortec but it is .030 over bored and.with a longer stroke crank. His engine has traditional heads with 6 intake bolts per head that are are a 90 degree angle to the machined surface of the intake side of the head. Vortecs have 4 intake bolts per head and the bolts are vertical when the head is installed on the block.

Thanks Skylark! I was tired and forget the block ground.Truck runs but I'm not gonna time it until I get my other injector. As for the water pump pulley I did buy new studs so maybe that did something to the alignment. I guess I need a water pump shim because I looked at another truck and the wp pulley sticks out just a hair and mine doesn't .Thanks for the help.

Truck is running great now but I have a couple of issues to fix.Altenator was making a loud noise on the new motor but not the old one.I swapped it out for a brand new one from Oriely's Auto and it still making a loud hum.Other issue I have is the car has a rough idle in drive with your foot on the brake. It stumbles once every 10-15 seconds. This problem was present on the old motor and also the new one.It doesn't do it in park.I rebuilt the TBI unit with a borg warner kit and replaced the bad injector. Both are spraying fuel evenly and everything was torqued to spec. Also new AC delco properly gapped plugs with new wires.I timed the motor to zero degrees with my light. No exhaust leaks.I did use the old dizzy, cap, rotor, coil, iacv, and tps with 184k on them. Please help cause I want it to idle perfect. It doesn't die only stumble on idle.Drives perfect. The alternator noise sucks but it's working properly I think. The gauge is around 14 volts while running.

Skylark,
Funny the HT383 isnt bored over its a standard bore. I thought the same thing untill I read it one day it only has a 3.8 stroke to make it a 383 . I guess its how GM keeps cost down.
Dans,
RWD is easyier to pull then FWD no? I think so.

The engine only stumbles after it's warmed up real good and driven for a while.Mostly when the a.c. is on and my compressor is running perfectly.I think I'm gonna change the coolant temperature sensor on the intake manifold.I tested the iacv and it's moving open and closed with the key and I also reset it.Hopefully I can fix this because it runs perfectly besides the engine stumble at idle while warmer up.
