Hey guys. It's been a loooong time since I've been on the site, but I've run out of ideas and I'm sure someone here will be able to help me.

A little back story, my ignition went out like two years ago. Never could figure out why. Turn the key, nothing. No starter click, just dead. The lights and everything still come on on the dash, and the radio shuts off, but other than that nothing happens.

I already had my remote start in my that time, so I started using that. But now that's going out, so I'd like to just fix the ignition. Here's what I got so far.

Ignition switch is new, neutral safety switch is new (or whatever it's called, the same switch that lights up the reverse lights for an automatic), and all wiring is present and not cut. Connections on the starter and the starter itself are good, because the remote start fires it up every single time, never has failed (the remote is just really finicky which is why I want to get rid of it).

I tried running a direct wire for testing purposes from the battery to the purple wire under the dash, which goes straight to the starter from the ignition switch according to every wiring diagram I've looked at.

Here's the kicker. Sometimes putting 12v direct to that wire doesn't work. It just sparks and heats up, starter doesn't make a sound, and I have to plug the remote start back in to use that. What the hell?

You have a short somewhere. The fact that it is working when you auto start but not with the key suggest that the short is between the power from your ignition switch to your starter. But since youre unable to jump it directly from power to the starter it might mean you have a bad ground/short in your ground too. That also might be why your auto starter is going.
