I've got a 6 lug C2500ld, my question is why are the 8 lug axle shafts (31.813" overall) shorter than the 6 lug (33.125" overall)? I know the 13" drums came on the 8 lug trucks but cannot seem to find backing plates for them. Anyone know?

Does anyone with a factory 8 lug 14b sf 9.5 rear have backing plate to backing plate measurements?

Basically I want to know if I can convert from 6 to 8 lug, or if the shafts will be too short

I want to say the axle tubes are shorter on the version with the 13" drums as the drums themselves are deeper. Longer/shorter axle shaft implies different track width and the only variable there is 2wd vs 4wd.
This ^^^^^^^
