So I bought this giant turd a year or so ago as a DD/tow rig that I could use for my business to haul Jeeps around and also haul my kids and all. Well, it served me well for that time, but it has always been a little rough around the edges. The truck is rust free, but has a few dings and dents and all the paint is gone from the roof. Paint sucks all over generally. The interior is pretty much trash, tan interior, dash is barely hanging on, carpet smells like a turd, and everything is generally broken inside. But it ran and drove good, up until recently.

We drove it in to my in-laws house to take a load of stuff to them, and when we got there it started puking transmission fluid all over. We kept the level full and got it back to the house, but the trans wasn't quite right. It isn't puking it's guts out, but it is just a heavier leak. Well, I used it yesterday to haul a Yukon XL to a friends house down the road and even unloaded the trans was slipping. I think it is time for a tear down.

I figure I have two options. One was to sell it and buy a newer nicer Vortec 454 K2500 Burb, the other would be to rebuild this one. I figure I can build this one to out perform a stock 454 Vortec Burb for marginally more than buying another one, and this will have a fresh drivetrain and I can build the truck how I want.

So the plans are to do a completely new grey interior (I have a nice one I pulled from a rusted K1500 Burb), swap it to an NV4500 manual trans, freshen the engine with either a Vortec roller longblock or just some Vortec heads on my freshed up shortblock. New intake and FITech fuel injection system. Then fix the body and give it a fresh black respray.

So here it is in all it's glory. Yes, I did install a diesel bumper on my gasser.

When I bought it the thing was horrid. It had some ugly ass Dodge Ram wheels on it.

Keep the W/T grille! We need to keep them around lol. I look forward to your build especially with a nv4500 in a Burban!

Oh, definitely keeping the W/T grille. I installed it on there, I love them.

Little change of plans though. I think I'm going to go with a built 4L80E. My wife hates driving a stick and doesn't particularly like driving the Burb to begin with. I just assumed she wouldn't want to drive it. She told me last night that one of the reasons we kept this and the 88 GMC pickup instead of getting a different 3/4 ton truck was to have the third row for family stuff. She said when it is done and not as turdy she won't mind driving it if she has to, so automatic it is.

So I may be going back to an NV4500. A friend has a complete parts truck with a Vortec 454 and NV4500 that he said he might sell me. If he does I'll do the swap. My wife can drive stick, she just isn't comfortable doing it. I'll just get her some seat time. Although a mild 454 with an NV4500 and 4.10 gears will almost drive itself. Just let off the clutch and let it drive away, push the gas whenever you feel like it. LOL

Weren't you on NC4x4? I remember there being a Jeep guy with a green 6.5 K2500; or am I confused??

Burb looks good! Seems like every other NC member has a diesel bumper on their truck, can't wait to see more!

Yep, you are exactly right. I sold that a couple years back. Kinda regret selling it but that 6.5 just kept giving me troubles. Fun truck though.
