Looking for a better-than-stock flowing muffler that doesn't get too loud or has too much drone at highway speeds. I have a 2000 K3500 with 7.4L and do a bunch of towing with the family so I dont want to drown anything out. Would prefer a straight through design like a magna flow but I know there are a hundred options. Need to do 2 in and 1 out for a single 3" tail pipe. Love how the flowmasters sound but I don't think they flow nearly as well the other brand mufflers. What have people had success with? What do I need to stay away from?

I checked out Jones Max Flo... But I don't have any experience with them or know anyone who does. Definitely on my list, and like you said the price is hard to beat. I never keep a rig long enough to wear out a muffler so i'm not horribly worried about longevity or "lifetime warranties".

I have one on my truck and like it. Been there about a year and a half. Beats the Flowmaster hands down (no drone)

Best flow with minimal noise = dynomax super turbo

You're right noise is at a minimum. I had a pair of those on my 1979 GMC Shorty stepside in high school and you couldn't hear anything. They were Thrush Turbo's back then I guess. Off the shelf at the local napa for 25 bucks each. Hacked them back off and put in flowmaster 40's as quick as I could. I guess I'll need more of a straight through design instead of the turbo style.

Many manufacturers make a "turbo" style muffler. They're all similar in design, having the baffled "s" shaped tube that runs through the case, and are filled with some sort of packing material. There is only one dynomax super turbo, and its claim to fame is extremely quiet exhaust while flowing almost as much as open headers.

So you want a little noise, but not too much, and no drone. You want a large case magnaflow.

Ok, so I'm scratching my head here a little bit. Crawled under the truck this morning to do an oil change and figured while I was at it, I'd check out what I'm going to need for my exhaust. I thought about going all new from the manifolds back but I don't think that will be necessary now. I grabbed my cheapo digital calipers and measured the pipes at 2-3/4 inch from the manifolds going into the muffler. Right at the muffler the pipes are necked down to 2-1/2" but I don't think ill be able to cut them off with enough space to pipe in the new muffler. Then I have a single 2-1/2" tail pipe. Was this setup standard on all 7.4L vortecs? The size I mean, because I know the configuration is correct.

I have a dynomax turbo and I enjoy it. It is louder than stock but no drone what so ever in the inside, which is awesome in long trips and if you travel with family. It is just a distinguished difference but not annoying or cheap sounding loud. Straight through design like the others say. Very affordable also.
