I used to think my Gibson 3" single catback system with Pacesetter shorties wasn't nearly loud enough on my V6 truck. Then I matured a little and now it's perfect.

IMO, straight pipes are for HEAVILY built engines where every little bit of restriction removed can mean extra power/speed. Usually not a daily driver, and definitely not a stock TBI or Vortec. It's not going to make any power difference over a setup with mufflers, and it's going to sound like ass. Just my opinion on the matter.

Not looking for a performance upgrade or anything, I've thought about putting flanges on the intermediate pipe and my current muffler so if I got sick of straights or went on a long trip I could always switch it up without having to cut or weld anything. I like my current setup but I wish it was louder.

Sounds like a plan to me, you could even get some electric cutouts so you didn't have to crawl under and unbolt the caps every time. Push a button, straight pipes dumped under the cab! Can't get much louder than that, and you could close them down for long trips so you don't want to kill yourself listening to it.

The thumb screw ones suck, I had a pair year's ago, they rusted shut on me then the stud twisted off lol.

Knowing what I know now, I would use antisieze on them, and not use water to cool them off quicker so I could pull them in a hurry. But I wasn't very clever when I was 17 lol.

You can also try dumps, they tend to make exhaust louder.

Best exhaust I ever had was on my old 97 Chevy 2500 with a 5.7L it was true dual, it had magnaflow cats and two magnaflow mufflers, it was loud as all hell when you wanted to be and little to no drone on the highway

Just read the first post, I'll go back on my above quote. Didn't realize the cat was going to stay in place. I had an 88 C1500 that the muffler rotted out of (it was already 3" cat back) so I just jammed a chunk of straight pipe in its place. It had a little rumble to it, but was very mellow overall. My current truck is louder than that one was.

I cut the muffler off my f mine (tbi, magnaflow cat) and I love the way it sounds. Because of inspection can't keep it though. Hack the muffler off and see if it fits what you're wanting

I just put a 12" glass pack on mine and it sounds similar to my truck without a muffler, only a little quieter

I'm not really a glasspack guy. Usually go with a good sounding muffler or none at all
