Lucky. Surface rust. I'd wire wheel the bottom of the bed and line it along with the wheel wells.

Glad to see you solved this one.

Yeah for sure. It was getting old having to try 2-3 times to get it started.

Put two coats of Chassis Saver on the rear half of the frame. Diff/Axle/Springs/Driveshaft are next.

I'd swap for an aluminum shaft vs painting and possibly changing the balance of the steel one.

I don't think paint would be enough to throw it off

I've seen aluminum options for my Mustang, but not my truck. Know where they are sold by chance?

Not too worried about balance, just looking to put on a light, uniform coat to halt any further rust.

The frame looks like it's in pretty good shape. Wish mine was that clean. Took me a week with a wire wheel to get most of the scale off. Under the cab and inside the channel still has some because I couldn't get to it.

Yeah, its not the most fun job in the world but its worth it. I stripped everything I could off of the rear section of the frame, and that helped immensely to get inside the C channel (shocks, braces, spare tire/mount, hitch, bumper, exhaust hangers, wiring, etc)
