Thats really odd i have DI/DO flowmaster super 44 and its actually louder then the 97 obs dully 454 my dad had with glasspacks. Neither trucks had cats. but mine has headers and 2.5" pipe from headers back which might be why mines so much louder then yours with the flowmaster

Do you think running a dumped DI/DO would be louder/as loud/not loud enough than running 2 flowmasters dumped?

Basically the question is, what's louder, 1 mufflers per pipe dumped, or both pipes in mufflers dumped?

Personally I would think that the DI/DO would be louder then 2 seperate mufflers because there's less preasure within 2 mufflers then there would be in one muffler

I also think that a exhaust system with a tail pipe sounds quite a bit better then an exhaust system that is dumped in my personal opinion. I had my one of my Camaro's with headers dumped for a while, sounded mean as hell from the outside but was just plain annoying from the inside! My buddy had a 93 GMC, and decided one night he was going to cut the muffler off and dump it. So it was straight piped (with cat) and dumped, it sounded like complete ass and had a shitload of interior resonance. Anyways, put a tail pipe on his truck and the truck had a lot better tone and was actually a little raspier, and also almost eliminated all of the interior resonance!

Thats my problem with running dumped exhaust it always has way to much resonance inside

heres my input. i had a flowmaster 40 dumped on my tahoe with a single 2.5" pipe with no cat back to the muffler and then a turndown. on my 95 its got a single flowmaster 50 same setup except its a dual out muffler and i have tailpipes on it and its alot louder! still not loud enough for my liking but it will do for now. i suggest cut off the cat and leave the muffler on it.

On my 93 5.7 I had a glasspack one in two out then I installed a high flow Magnflow cat and it was to loud so I installed a Magnflow muffler for a mellow sound so the factory cat does block sound.

I got used to the resonance, actually, to the point where I almostmiss it when driving other vehicles..

I drove my 98 like that for 1 night, hated it. Too loud no matter if I was on the gas at all or not, couldn't even hear myself think in the cab. I didn't have cats though so that might have something to do with it. Probably even more annoying than when I ran my 454 open manifold for 4 days after my sas.

Truck's been like that since opening day of the Silver Lake sand dunes, April 1st 2010, I had Red hot glass packs on each of those pipes dumped, but they sounded like a big wispy watermelon fart and the pipes clanged (is that a word?) on that cross member, so I cut off the glass packs while sitting on the top of Test Hill with a battery powered Reciprocating saw because it was annoying as hell.

Ever since that day I haven't touched the pipes, but since I haven't done anything with them, they have eventually wobbled so much, that the right bank is cracking right at the first o2 sensor, 90% of the way through the pipe, so now it's exhaust leaks there, and on that 3 bolt flange towards the rear there.

New 2.25" true duals with flowmaster 40s dumped w/o cats coming soon.

Also ran that setup for most of the time I owned my 98. Although it wasn't dumped until the bumper where it had a turndown on either side of hitch tucked behind the bumper so you couldn't see but the tip op the piping. I loved the way it sounded. I have a video of it on my girls computer if she can ever get it working again. I think her hard drive crashed so my favorite video may be lost forever.
