you don't need collector gaskets with ball socket ends. if you have manifolds and you are keeping them you need donut gaskets to put in them. The summit header buddies might work not sure, but if you have reg. flange headers the header buddies replace the standard flange reducer with a ball end and they are only $25.

ball and socket dont use gaskets, my dad put a set on his Camaro last year, very slick.

Also, my headers have the old style flanges on the bottom, that take the triangle type gasket, i just buy the cheapo Mr.Gasket gaskets and put orange silicone on them, no leaks yet.

I know this thread is a few months old but I wanna add my $0.02 :)

With basic bolt ons and an OEM HCI, you can actually HURT performance by adding big primary LT headers. How? Inhale thru a straw and exhale thru a paper towel tube... Notice anything?? Right, zero back pressure which leads to poor exhaust scavenging which leads to a loss of torque that no truck should be without.. Yes!! LT headers generally make more power than shorties and especially cast iron manifolds. However, LT headers make more power in the higher rpm range which, unless you drive in the 3k to 5k (or whatever your redline is) constantly you really don't see the power you paid for. You actualy feel the drop in low end torque that leads to crappy fuel mileage. Now, for those with higher flowing, purpose built engines (or LSx swaps) will greatly benefit from LT headers due to the added airflow through the engine. (remember the straw/paper towel tube analogy I mentioned? Reverse it and it applies to a free-flow topend and a restrictive exhaust)

ugh. U DONT want backpressure, you want velocity.

I agree. I do the same thing except the silicone and its been almost 4 yrs and the driver side is just now starting to leak a little cold. so i cant complain
