Fog light placement

I've been interested in getting some front fog lights for the longest time but I don't plan on getting a brush guard any time soon. I don't want to drill into anything that is costly to replace and I want to keep a nice, clean look as much as possible.

Ideas? Please, post pictures of your fog light placements and helpful tips on what I could do.

So far I have two ideas:

Inexpensive rectangular amber lens and yellow/amber bulbs under the license plate bracket for torrential rain/snow storms (easier to see and be seen)

OR

Inexpensive thin tractor/auxiliary fogs behind the grille for driving at 1am on country roads during the Rut and as F-U lights for people who think the left lane is for going 1mph over the speed limit. I think I came across someone who had them on this forum but I have no idea where to start looking for that. Anyone who has pictures of it in a GMT-400, I would appreciate it!

You want them as low as possible, as in cut holes in the valance and mount them there. They are supposed to shine under the fog. You will never be able to cut through the fog with any lights.

Do you have HIDs in the low and high beams? Do that first along with 4 high.

I have some lights I just mounted behind the grille but they are going to be for long distance, not fog. Eventually I want to add some universal fit HID projectors from e in the valance for shining underneath fog.

I'm not for lights behind the grille particularly. Not bad if you just drive the truck, but more of an issue in extreme climates and/or if you tow heavy loads.

My setup - surprised you haven't seen it!

Diesel bumper with modified 88-89 adjusters and custom made housings. I did this back in 2003, one of the very first to do so (copying the Z71 and Limited tahoes). Many people do this setup with all different types of lights. I choose the 88-89 adjusters and buckets because a H9405 sealed beam spotlamp fits in it directly and the proportions are the same as the opening. You can also just use another H4703 or H4701 headlamp in there.

Lower fogs are OEM foglight brackets with KC LX2 lenses in the factory buckets. Again, can just use factory, or cut and mount something custom in this location.

I see people beat me to the punch! I did this so so long ago.

I can see Josh's (Jollygreen's) lights are a larger size than the opening. I know many people have used the smaller fog lights that are the same size as the factory fogs / KC LX2 I have below the bumper. BHB used that size, they are a good bit smaller than the opening.

Oh God, I hate the 4 high mod. No way. lol And I don't have HID's. I don't wanna mess with my OEM headlights. (fogs round here mean any aftermarket driving lights, i.e. fogs, off-road, floods...)

The valance...maybe. Mine's cracked on the passenger side, bought it like that (didn't notice it for weeks). Might cut into that and mount them. Its a good idea.

I mainly want the amber fogs for winter not to cut through fog but to illuminate freshly snow covered roads. Easier to see shadows and previous tire tracks with the amber color reflecting off of the snow as compared to white-on-white from the headlights.

You can easily and cleanly mount just about any foglight behind the valence, just have to make a bracket, cut the holes, etc. Being that low is good for inclement weather.

Also, what's wrong with the 4-hi mod? Both of my trucks have 8-hi :lol:

Don't know about putting them behind the grill. Especially if they're like the ones on the F*rd pictured. Those are a true off-road light. Had some like that behind the grill of my '80 El Camino with 130w Halogen bulbs. They run so hot that I would have to pull the grill & repaint it every 3-4 months. So hot, they would cook the paint to the point of flaking off. After 2 years, had to replace the grill as the plastic bars had begun to melt & sag.
I found that the bars in the grill effected the way the light beam projected, too. Really nice to drive behind, though. People coming at me with their high beams on, really got the message when I flashed those lights. Light up the whole inside of their vehicle from a 1/4 mile away!

be careful running those all-plastic fogs, i ran nearly the same ones and the way they are designed is poor and if you strip the plastic holder the bolt holds on to out, you have to break them off...

i now run burner series fog lights. not the best, considering i got them from walmart for 20$, but i never really use them, since my lights overpower them with the new clear lenses, but they do help me see a blind spot in front of me when my high's are turned on.

i just drilled into my bumper and bolted them up. nothing fancy, i do love how square fog's look on obs trucks though.
