Hey guys I've got an 89' C1500 with a 4.3L and an NV3500. There is a strange (I wouldn't call it knocking) but tapping noise coming from the bellhousing. I'm certain its clutch related as all I have to do to silence it is put a TINY bit of pressure on the clutch pedal, aka rest my foot on it. If I don't the noise will increase with rpms until a certain point, then it disappears until the rpms drop again.
I don't think its a cracked flywheel. Probably the throwout bearing.

Any Ideas?

Sounds like you're on the right track, but if it were me, I would order a new clutch and throwout bearing. Might as well replace both since you're in there. How many miles are on the clutch? Something to consider.
