We made a bunch of progress on the SAS swap. Got the old IFS cut out and about to install the new brackets. Will add more photos as we get closer.

We used a cut off wheel for the pass side and after using about 15 wheels on it I went and bought a plasma cutter from Harbor Freight for $400 and it cut the time in half! Really worked surprisingly well. Next we will be bolting the brackets on and mounting the springs. Had to remove 2 of the bolts on the steering box to move enough to get a puller on it for the pitman arm. Other than that it has been fairly easy but a HELL of a lot of grinding!

This is awesome. Are there any locating/positioning holes or just lots of measurements for the new brackets?
The kit I am using is from Off Road Design. If you are using the stock leaf springs from 73-87 it works with your existing bolt holes for the brackets. You will have to drill a few holes with a 1/2" drill bit but other than that it is a bolt in set up. Very well built and heavy duty! Those guys at ORD are awesome!

Looking good! Actually had nice weather and was out working on mine. Swapping the 44 out for a 60, and the 44 will be going in the Yukon. Gonna be getting a complete SAS hopefully soon for my black 99. Getting tired of looking at em and not able to work on em. Gonna have to check out the plasma from HF...

Ok so learned a few things on the Suburban. So having to relocate the rear air lines inbound from the frame rails so the rear spring bracket will have room. Which also means the exhaust has to be changed because the two pipes on the passenger side were in the way. So being the old school hot rodder I am, I now have full length headers and dual exhaust being installed (by me) tomorrow. Today I spent time hacsawing the exhaust off and removing the manifolds and air lines. Tomorrow will be removing the smog pump and swapping out the intake and going back with my holley street dominator intake and quick fuel 750 dp. For those that ask, safety only inspection where I am at and when its over 25 years there is no emissions testing any longer. I still have the cat converters and could put them on but haven't decided on that. Also have to relocate the stock oil filter (which is a side mount setup) to the normal straight down bbc setup. Won't clear the headers the way it is from the factory. I have a TCI transmission controller for the 4l80e and also a comp cams 278HR cam, springs, keepers, setup. Once I get it going again and work out the bugs, I plan on swapping the cam and springs but not right now. When I get the exhaust on it I will post more pictures. Also, the factory manifolds have studs on them so a 6 point socket gets those out with a prayer and some PB blaster. I was praying they didn't break off in the head.

Mate, I hate to be one of those guys but, you really need to put the guard back on that grinder. If you ever had a disc fragment in an enclosed space like that you will know why. Now that I have said that, it's coming along nicely.

Yeah we tried but some of those areas are so tight just can't get in there with it. But thank you.

Got a bit more progress done today. Pass side is pretty much done. Have to drill out a couple of wholes on front bracket and put bolts through but its in there. Tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) will be knocking out the drivers side. Ended up using the plasma cutter to punch through the wholes on the frame which sped up the drilling bolts time. Worked pretty well. Have to order a filter attachment housing for oil filter and notch a bit on the pass side header on the frame for clearance. Drivers side fit no issues. Getting there.
