Little black box...

Okay, there's a little black box on the bottom of the steering column on my truck that sometimes i have to wiggle or even hit a few times to get it to function correctly, it makes the little light that indicates what gear i'm in on the dash light up, it makes the gauges function and controls the downshifts or tranny it seems. What i'm asking is what is it and how do i fix it? replace it?

Alright, found out what it is. Its the ignition switch and got a replacement price...$210 for a little black box with some wires?!! I think not..think i'll be searching some junkyards...are they the same on the vortec and older models?

98 has pass lock so dont do that year.

Alright sweet. I know where theres a 96 sitting at the junkyard...if its still there! If it is i'll hopefully be grabbin that stuff soon.
