Hi

One wonders why GM has persisted for years to offer radios at 1.5 DIN format.
It is almost impossible today to update its systems (aux/CD entry, USB port for ex ...) without modification or major conversions from 1.5 DIN to 1 ou 2 DIN.
In short, as I want to do the least possible change to my dashboard and I have found out only 3 models :

One comes with a very poor technology at an expensive price

RetroSound Newport

The 2 others are boats devices. I know it's à weird idea but "not so stupid" ;)

Boss

Pyle

Any advice welcome.

I saw that first one in my searches as well.

I'm just going to go with a single din and a plastic filler piece. Seems like that'll be a about as close (or not) to stock as anything else (besides that first overpriced thing). And you can get some good tech for pretty cheap these days - it's been awhile since I've been in the market for a head-unit.

To be honest, the only one of those I would touch with a 10ft pole would be the Retrosound. I didn't even open the links and I can pretty much tell you the other two are garbage. I have installed Retrosound units in older (60's-70's) vehicles with non-standard dash openings and they're actually pretty nice units. Not sure why you say they have "poor technology," especially when compared with Boss or Pyle. Also, don't buy from Crutchfield unless you're comfortable overpaying. I use them to shop around and if/when I find something I like I'll Google the model number of the equipment I want to find a much better deal. I'd tell you where I usually buy most of my things but it probably wouldn't apply to you anyway as you're in a different part of the world.

EDIT - As mentioned above, unless it bothers you to the point of sacrificing performance for better looks, just get a single DIN unit with a proper install kit. You'll be able to find something with much nicer specifications and it really won't look that bad.
