NBS brake swap on 2WD GMT400 almost complete

The leaf spring on passenger side was broke up front and about to break in the rear, the front hanger was broken, I don't know what kept it together. When finished this truck will be very basic, no ac no heat, no ps no radio, probably a flat bed, 6.2 w/ 5 speed manual with dang good brakes hahaha

On the rearend idea you had, that's not a bad idea, however I'm GM to the core, and I wanted disc brakes so swapping to an 800 was the only solution for me, and besides my next door neighbor owns a salvage yard.

NBS brake swap on 2WD GMT400 almost complete

To answer your questions, first let me explain the setup and its requirements. To use the gmt800-900 brake pkg a appropriate knuckle/spindle has to be used, on a 4wd its as simple as tossing in a new knuckle, on a 2wd not so. The balljoint orientation is different than any 800-900 platform, so a...

Floating Rotor Swap on 90 RCSB LD Brakes

The gmt400 platform for 2wd and 4wd has a totally different style of knuckle. They can't be interchanged with each other. The control arms are totally different, ball joints are totally different. Won't work unless you refabricate the lower control arms and either modify the upper brackets or...

Floating Rotor Swap on 90 RCSB LD Brakes

This is a project not for the faint of heart. I have been doing this swap for approximately 1.5 weeks in the afternoon when i get home from work. It requires reworking the lower control arm to accomodate a different style of ball joint, the LCA has to be sleeved to allow the downward facing...

NBS brake swap on 2WD GMT400 almost complete

Once I got the first mount cut off, I made two relief cuts to the interior of the portion still attached to the frame, so I could properly locate the bracket later. I then removed the rest of the bracket, notched the frame, installed some gussets inside the frame, then installed bracket top side...

NBS brake swap on 2WD GMT400 almost complete

The camber issue is more about the relocation of the lower ball joint, the relative location of the upper joint is pretty much the same as the original as far as the knuckle is concerned, however because the lower joint was inverted the articulation of the joint is below the arm and because of...

NBS brake swap on 2WD GMT400 almost complete

After getting my spring installed I realized I had a severe camber issue. So not wanting to throw in the towel, I proceeded, I began to take measurements and come to an alternative solution, I cut off the upper CA mounts, moved them forward a half inch and dropped them down a half inch.

NBS brake swap on 2WD GMT400 almost complete

Sorry for the delay in getting info posted. I ran into an issue that I am trying to resolve, I had everything back together, however I hadn't installed the spring, so I installed it over the weekend and have severe negative camber issues. I've worked up a fix, it involves some welding and moving...

NBS brake swap on 2WD GMT400 almost complete

If you look in the picture with them standing up, the lower ball joint flange is thicker on the aluminum one , one thing to remember these are off 2 different platforms. With the overall height being taller, I would have to believe that any lowering effect would be negligible if any. Now the...
