    OBS rear axle width

From my experience, the 88-98 truck/suv 5 lug 10 bolts are all the same.

    OBS rear axle width

This is not accurate. Here is a killer swap with factory parts: 1. Locate a 2000-2007 Disc Braked 8 lug 14SF. 2. Order shafts for a 88-98 Z71. 3. Order rear brake rotors for an early 2000s 3/4 ton 6 lug Van. This his will get you a 6 lug 14SF with larger 3/4 ton discs and parking brake...

    Body Mount Question

In the process of installing Poly body mounts. The large metal washers that go on the bottom of the mount have stamped numbers as follows: A5, B5, A4, etc.... Can anyone tell me which one goes where? I didn't pay attention when I removed them. My truck is a 95 ECSB for reference.

5 or 6 speed auto transmission Conversion?

Another vote here for torque converter. Assuming your 35s measure closer to 33s, your rpm at 80 should be about 2340.

SAS with long tube headers? Anyone?!

I don't have a picture, but will be fabricating mine shortly. For my truck, I have to set the bottom of the shackle hanger to be flush with the bottom of the chassis as the header collector will be right above it. Since the Z71 chassis is taller than the 2wd chassis, the hanger will not...

SAS with long tube headers? Anyone?!

Return the shorties if you can. You can clear long tubes, you just need custom rear brackets. My truck SAS'ed and I will be installing LTs. Can you fab? Do you have access to anyone who can fab?

    14 Bolt SF Build

Need to thin the gear paint some more, but the 0.036" - 0.038" look good.

Big Blue, read this: http://www.ringpinion.com/Content/HowTo/TechnicalInstructions/Yukon_Installation_Kit_Instructions.pdf It also has torque specs.

    14 Bolt SF Build

Any time. I just didn't want you to have to take everything apart after getting the axle installed and driving on it. Rule of thumb with crush sleeves is to carefully tighten the NEW pinion nut until there is no longer any axial play in the pinion i.e. the pinion bearings are seated in the...

    Let's talk lockers

Notice that I didn't quote the OP. My thought is, if you are going to drop $$ on an ARB, at least have something better than a 10 bolt. Of course, this my opinion.

    Let's talk lockers

    I hope you are not ARB'ing a 10 bolt.....

    Let's talk lockers

I have a full detroit locker in my 14FF. I like it. A true trac is a good choice, however I found out from Randys that it is one wheel peel in reverse. The Yukon Duragrip is supposed to be a Eaton clone (not G80) that is rebuildable, has stronger parts, and is cheaper.

    14 Bolt SF Build

You will hardly ever get a nice oval pattern. In all the diffs I put together I got that once, and that was a set of dragrace gears. Everything else has been like what you have seen in my pictures. I want to say you are on the money. Did you add more gear lube to the paint? How are you...

    14 Bolt SF Build

Better! Need to add a bit more gear lube to the paint. What is the backlash? Did you run the pattern using the wrench on the ring gear bolt method? Based on the looks of that pattern, I want to say that 0.037" shim will do it. Also, read the pattern from the coast side of the...

That 0.064" shim pattern reads as if it is too deep. Flat on the bottom with a curved on top (rising sun) means there is too much shim. This is what proper patterns look like:

    14 Bolt SF Build

Like said, you have to look at the WHOLE mark, or the whole area where the paint was disturbed. Have you run the gears with yet?

    14 Bolt SF Build

That 0.030" shim looks close man. You have to look at the WHOLE mark on the tooth, not just the dark spots. Try this: - Reinstall 0.030" shim. - Install pinion tight enough that you get 1 to 1.5 free spins out of it. - Install carrier. - Thin out the gear paint a bit more with gear...

14 bolt 9.5" sf detroit locker 4.88 yukon gears.

30, 53, 80... Where are you getting these shim thicknesses from? What was the shim behind the factory pinion? Do you happen to have a pic of the pattern with the 0.030" shim? That 0.053" pic is too deep.

    14 Bolt SF Build

Read this. http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190110 I wrote this for the 10 bolt, but it applies to your axle as well. The best way to check pinion depth IMO is by using gear paint. Read the write up. It will help.
