Tuning vortec to run on as little sensors as possible

Have you considered carburetion? So many three letter acronyms (TLAs); ECM, PCM, TBI, EFI, MAP, MAF, TPS, IAC, IAT, CTS; which ones have I forgotten? That is good for tuning with a laptop and a code reader; I prefer wrenches. And, I really don't care to have a computer shifting my transmission

What transmission is in my 1988 3500?

I did some more digging for the answer. A person in a Facebook group said that the Getrag transmissions had external hex head fill and drain plugs, while an NV3500 has 17mm internal hex (Allen) plugs. My transmission has the latter.

What transmission is in my 1988 3500?

My RPO codes: MM4: Transmission, Manual, 4-Speed (Merchandising Option); M20: Transmission, Manual, 4-Speed (Muncie). The transmission in the truck is a 5-speed; first gear does not feel nor sound like granny gear. My reference is the SM420 in my last truck (1966 C10) - first gear was a crawler...

Carrying Spare Tire for my 3500

Here are my drawings; the assembly drawing shows the hardware. I used two existing holes in my bed rail. If I was drilling, I would put the 1/2" bolt between the two 5/16" mounting bolts. I mounted the metal to the rail and then marked the location of for the 1/2" bolt through the wheel lug...

Carrying Spare Tire for my 3500

I have some aluminum that I can use like this, with a 1/2-20 stud in a tapped hole. I found a spare tire stud lock on eBay for $17. I can get a Grade 8 bolt (1/2") for about $5. The gray part of the assembly in the drawing is the box rail. There are two existing 5/16” holes 1-1/2” apart on...

Carrying Spare Tire for my 3500

I am just started to think about it; it is a low priority. I am presently setting up a manual carb choke control. I thought I was going electric choke, but the primary throttle shaft is 1/4" too long, and Holley wants about $200 for a replacement primary throttle body.

Carrying Spare Tire for my 3500

Thanks; the truck is an 1988 Scottsdale 3500 (454 with Holley 750 - 5 Speed. The hardware was not lost due to corrosion; this truck is clean underneath.

Carrying Spare Tire for my 3500

I just purchased a reconditioned wheel and a used tire for a spare. My truck came from the previous owner less a spare tire, jack, lug wrench, and tire carrier. It appears to have room for a tire under the box, but nothing is present to hang it. I am OK carrying the tire in the box, but will...

Yes, above the accelerator pedal is the unit shown in the picture. I don’t see the connections, though there are some unused connections in the side of this unit.

    Delco AM/FM Radio

Digging some more today, I pulled out the radio from the dash and learned that it was not connected. I show the connector next to the radio in the photo. I pulled out the tangle of wires, connectors, and fuse holders, disconnecting the black, blue, and yellow connectors shown. I thought perhaps...

    Delco AM/FM Radio

Looking online for single DIN receiver adapter, I came across the one shown in the photo. Is this the location I should be looking to fill with a replacement radio, or should it go where the stock radio is located? Thanks

    Delco AM/FM Radio

Stock radio does not work. I pulled from the center of the dashboard (under heater vents) a JVC Multi-Changer Control Receiver. It was partially connected to the bundle of cables shown in my hand, including two inline fuses. Whatever this unit controlled is no longer in the truck. How best to...

    Heater Blower and Blower Control

Due to snowfall overnight, they closed work. I got to work on my blower motor today. I knew the motor was bad; it would barely rotate when connected to a power supply. I replaced the blower and the resistor module. And, I replaced the 25 amp fuse. The fuse tested good but the plastic was a...

    Heater Blower and Blower Control

I verified that the blower motor runs off of the power supply connected to the leads on blower motor. I verified that the ground wire is good. Now, there is no voltage at the positive lead for the blower motor. So, I pulled the connector from the switch. The lead that formerly had 12 Volts...

    Heater Blower and Blower Control

Today, I verified that the ground on the blower motor is good and that I have voltage at the connector. I got the blower to run on all three speeds, but when I tried it again the blower would not run at all. I verified the voltage at the connector again, but when I connected to the blower -...

    Heater Blower and Blower Control

Heater blower did not function on the 1988 Scottsdale 3500 that I bought. This truck does not have A/C. I connected a 12 Volt power supply directly to the blower; it drew about 4 to 5 Amps and it sounded it like it was rotating slowly. So, I purchased and installed a new blower motor. While...
