    305 rebuild with performance parts

That's good to know about vortec heads not working with TBI. I want to switch to something like a Holley sniper down the road so i have some deciding to do there. That's pretty interesting that a Y pipe and single 3" flow better than dual. Can you buy an after market Y pipe for these trucks? For...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

Do you think it would need custom tuning or would a pre made chip be enough? I was looking at magnaflow they seemed good with straight through flow.

    305 rebuild with performance parts

What did you do for tuning your tbi? Do you take it to a shop to get it done or is it somewhat manageable to do from home. I haven't done much research into so I don't know much about it. I'd like to do from home but I think you have to buy quite a bit of hardware to do it. I like the vortec...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

thats great, Do you think keeping a y pipe affects it negatively or would dual's be better? I like the idea of using iron heads being cheaper than buying aluminum which add up really quick. I also see where you are coming from with 350s being dime a dozen. I would have to find a used one if I...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

Does anyone else have any experience building a 305 and what you did. My apologies for earlier I kinda veered off course there for a bit with the 305 - 350 debate, sorry. So what are some heads that would be good? I've heard the 416 and 601 factory units are pretty good, someone mention vortec...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

What are you even saying now? You gave what advice you had and then ended it by saying shitcan the engine, why even make a comment if that's what you think. You just couldn't hold back from saying it's a shitty choice. No I don't dictate what you say obviously, freedom of speech, I just asked...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

Yeah I can see where you are coming from there with the weight. I understand that a 350 has the upper hand on a 305, but I could care less. The whole point of this was to get advice on building a 305 not doing a swap. It's already pretty hard to find anything even on other forums because people...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

What ever man, You clearly didn't read what I said originally. I know a 350 will make more than a 305 thats common knowledge. I've read so many forums where everyone just says to drop the 305. Someone who has experience with 305's and willing to share positive info is welcome, not someone here...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

Thanks for the response schurkey kinda what I suspected with the tbi being sufficient. You must not have read my entire post since I said I want good advice on a 305 and that I didn't want to here how bad it is and to get rid of it, but you just had to make a comment on it. I've heard it enough...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

Ya I agree with the exhaust, stock y pipe has to go along with the rest of the stock pieces. I think the cfm put out by the tbi is enough if you do the small mods, being only a 305 I read a lot about not needing very many cfm's or else you give up low end torque if I used a carb rated for 850...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

Which holley unit did you use? it seems like most of them are all 750-800 cfm. I don't know if they automatically adjust for smaller displacement or not but that seems excessive for a 305.

    305 rebuild with performance parts

What all is need to do the sniper swap? would I need the entire kit? Also did you have many bugs with it? ive heard a few people do.

    305 rebuild with performance parts

What are your thoughts on the tbi? So many people talk down on it but from what i've read its more than enough for what i would need. I'm guessing it would still need some modifications like the fuel pressure spring and maybe make it flow a bit better. The aftermarket EFI are pretty pricey, so I...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

That's great info on the pistons and rods. Nice to here you made good power with yours John, gives me hope I can get a good build going. I plan on keeping it tbi injection until I can get an aftermarket style injection. what kind of stall would I need if I met my goals. Where do you guys find...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

Thanks for info I definitely plan on swapping to either 3.55 gears or 3.73 and rebuild the trans before touching the engine. That is a pretty good article with good info about smaller bore engines. I've been looking at heads and found a lot of people say the stock 416 or 601 are the best...

    305 rebuild with performance parts

Hi, I posted another thread about engine swaps awhile ago but still haven't ruled out keeping the 305 thats currently in my truck, so I don't need people telling me to rip it out and get rid of it. so please bite your tongue if you're gonna say something bad about the 305. Anyway, Ive never done...

Would like advice/info on engine swap

Thanks for the reply Erik, I've heard that quite a bit. Do you have an insight on the 350/290? It seems like everything I read is it's either a fantastic engine or thats it's just awful, not much inbetween.

Would like advice/info on engine swap

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention that I have 2 intakes that are laying around that work with the 350/290 since they are pre 87 heads. I know if I go vortec i would have to get a new intake that fit vortec heads which cost around 500 if I remember obviously I could look around for better...

Would like advice/info on engine swap

Hi, I currently have a 92 c1500 with a 305 TBI, 700r4 combination. The 305 is feeling pretty weak and i've been researching new engines. I thought about rebuilding the 305 but id rather drive the truck up until a new engine is ready and it just doesn't seem worth it in the long run and resale...
