Hi Scott, hope you are well. Just wondering if you’ve been able to work on your truck at all?

Congrats Scott, looks like some good numbers. Now you’re gonna want to lift those valves that far!

    99 L29 454 build

I recently jumped into the gen 6 game by buying a used long block for my wife’s Chevelle. I was told of compression issues before purchase and upon tear down it seams to have gotten VERY HOT. Oil very black, valve seals baked/swollen/burnt/crispy, oil ring marks stained into cylinders, cam...

Poke around your intake ports where you ground out the swirl lumps with a small screwdriver or pick tool with some force to look for thin spots, I have heard of people hitting water behind there.

If your pistons are .015 in the hole, you can run a much thinner head gasket than a .050.

L29 rebuild - give me ideas

According to GM Performance Parts catalog, heads seem to be the peanut port truck heads if that’s what you have now. I don’t know what it would need computer-wise, probably just a tune. Definitely need to at least upgrade the cat-back exhaust.

cut springs (those who have done it.)

I have I think a 1-1/2” adapter with a 1/2” spacer behind it and a 1/4 or 3/8” spacer in front of it! The lug studs aren’t long enough for any more and the track width looks right.

cut springs (those who have done it.)

I have 17x9.5 front wheels for a C4 corvette and they rubbed on the upper control arm outboard of the ball joint. I ground the control arm down for clearance. It rubbed upon compression of the suspension. Now I want to cut the coils to lower it about 1.5” but I know it’s gonna rub a bunch more...

L29 rebuild - give me ideas

GM HT 502 long block 406hp/541lb-ft, $6,623 from Summit. GM 502 short block is $5,544 from Summit but comes with a bigger cam than you probably want in a work truck.

    1996 Suburban Suspension Issue

I need to replace my “squeak pads” also, are they available by themselves? The leaves aren’t making any noise but I can feel them not moving smoothly. My rear u-joint is starting to clang going from fwd to rev.

    Header bolts-tool suggestions?

I use ARP stainless 12 point bolts and FelPro gaskets. Make sure your gasket matches your headers and exhaust ports. I have an old double box end wrench that I ground down around the outside of one end. This allows it to fit against a tight header tube. During the first week of use, retighten...

    454 (7.4L) swap / repair options - 1999 Suburban K2500

What about the GM HT502? Direct replacement with new injectors, better exhaust parts, and a tune should wake up the truck. I don’t know if the vortec manifold bolts to those heads. If it doesn’t, get just the short block and have your heads freshened up.

I’m at 366700 miles but only about 80,000 of them are mine. Original tbi 305 won’t make enough power to hurt itself, so it continues down the road! I wish something would happen to it so I can finally do the lt1 swap. Running too good as is.
