07 8.1 into 96 2500

Has anyone swapped an 8.1 into a GMT400? Sounds like a no brainer but I'm sure there s a lot more to it.

Trans identify

How do you identify externally a 4L80E on a 96 2500 2wd with 5.7 I have a chance to buy one real cheap and guys says its a 4L80E(TH400 with an OD) but I say its a 4L60E. Some say it could be a 4L60 as well. can you tell by the VIN what trans it has?
