    Calling all gear ratio wizards.

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention I put 6,000 mi on the old transmission after I lost 3rd and 4th gears. I was rocking it in second gear at 3500 RPMs at 55 mph on the interstate. I am so glad to be able to go 70 at 1800 rpms again. My fuel economy is back up around 16 to 18 where it usually sets...

I still want a stick shift someday so maybe when I hit 400,000 miles on this truck I'll be able to get it. The first transmission made it to 200,000 miles so hopefully I'll get at least that out of this transmission.

Well if anybody was wondering whatever happened with this I ended up taking the remanufactured 4L60E I had in my last Tahoe for 40,000 miles before I wrecked it and I sent it back to the builder which is bow tie overdrives and had them go through it replace the seals and clutches and anything...

Who's the best 4L60E builder these days?

Well since I haven't heard anything super compelling talking me into trying a different transmission builder this time I decided to go ahead and use bow tie overdrives in Hesperia California again. They built me a transmission for my Tahoe in 2018 and I have since wrecked that Tahoe but saved...

This should give everybody a pretty good idea of my expectations. I'm currently driving around town in second gear (1.625) which locks out first gear and I can tolerate that it doesn't bother me so if the stick shift is better than that I'll be extremely happy. Unfortunately as a total up...

2000 RPM at 75 sounds about perfect to me. I just don't know anything about the first two gears and how they would feel around town.

Sounds like I should be OK if I decide to go that route then.

It definitely wouldn't win any races. If it wouldn't make it feel more anemic around town than it already does I would be very happy. I am far more concerned with durability and fuel economy than performance. I am working on getting my one ton back on the road so it would do all the real pulling.

The t56 magnum would be about 2300 RPM at 75 in 5th gear. I rarely see over 75 so I'd probably usually drive it like a 5 speed. I just haven't liked everything I've read about the 5 speed options. I wonder how expensive regearing is and is that something I could do at home? I have successfully...

That was multiple RPMs on the same transmission.

It's a running issue with me. This one made it to 197,360 miles on the original transmission but I got it at 165,000 miles. My last 4l60e failure was a Tahoe I had no history on but the transmission in it when I got it was painted black so I know it was a rebuild or reman and it only lasted me...

I know it's probably terrible for the engine but I really enjoy lugging an engine. Annoys the heck out of me when my automatic down shifts when I'm trying to go 3/4 throttle in a high gear. I just don't understand why these 4l60e transmissions keep blowing.

The above is my current 4l60e. It pulls my 75 top speed no problem. We don't have hills here. The thing I hate is first gear is way too low for my tastes. I like efficiency. I tend to shift early and accelerate slowly when I drive a stick. I just don't have any experience with a stick in a...
