    95 GMC C1500 with L29 454 and 4l80e

I found the answer for the mess of pass through wires on this forum. Heat from a heat gun turns the block of wires into sticky goo. Let it sit a few minutes and the goo turns into putty. The wire separator is reusable and the wires don't have to be cut if you are needing to reuse them. Wear...

    95 GMC C1500 with L29 454 and 4l80e

The more I look, the more hokey stuff I find. The shifter linkage is from a van (so was the 454 engine and trans). The cable comes out from the firewall and the cable gets all turned around to end up where its supposed to go. I saw on youtube where its supposed to route in the trans tunnel. The...

    95 GMC C1500 with L29 454 and 4l80e

The painless l29 swap harness and the hacked up 95 engine harness are removed from the truck. The rectangle passthrough hole under the coolant bottle, the stuff inside the plastic housing is tough. I dont think its RTV, more like some specialty glue to bed the wires. I was able to carefully...

Yes, this is not a "snap together" job. That's a minor hurdle.

    95 GMC C1500 with L29 454 and 4l80e

I finally started working on this the last few weekends. The painless (painful) l29 swap harness is now removed and the factory harness is pretty hacked up too. I have a lead on another uncut 95 harness to start fresh and combine with the reworked swap harness. I ordered a 2002 Express van pcm...

    275/60/15 8" wheel backspace?

1/2" or so too far out to clear the inner fender lip. Its OK as long as I dont go any lower. For $67 each from Jegs, its OK

    275/60/15 8" wheel backspace?

4-1/4" backspace is not ideal on a 8 inch wide wheel even with a 4" drop in the rear . It needs to be around 4-3/4. With the 4" drop in the rear its OK with the inner lip tapped up. I knew better but the $67 each price and free shipping from Jegs was attractive. My other wheels were 3-1/2...

    275/60/15 8" wheel backspace?

Ok good to know, I did search here but the only backspacing reference I could find was a recomendation for 5" on a 15x8 wheel with a 275 tire.

    275/60/15 8" wheel backspace?

I have a 95 short bed 1500 that needs a lot of work. It has newer 275/60 15s in the rear. One in front wheel is cracked. The 10" rear wheels are in good shape but the wrong offset by a long shot, so they rub at times. I have found some steel 5x5 15x8 wheels with a 4-1/4 back spacing reasonable...

    95 GMC C1500 with L29 454 and 4l80e

The wiring is a mess! I can fix it but I need to find a good wiring diagram for the 1995 year c1500. They took a painless wiring L29 harness and tried to hack it into the 95 harness. The Painless harness is pretty well documented by color and location. The fix is to strip out all both harnesses...

    95 GMC C1500 with L29 454 and 4l80e

I wouldnt have any other transmission behind a 454. The 4l80e is just fine, for cruising or a trip to the drags. With a ten bolt, not sure the rear could take the abuse of a stick.

Thanks, but 95 and up had air bags. I would rather put an early wheel on it if I can find one in good shape. I like the look better and my airbag wire is already removed.

Can I put a 1988-1994 steering wheel on the 95? Its got a tiny 13" grant wheel that I am not in love with. I see where someone's already removed the air bag wire when they did this. I don't want an air back back but like OEM steering wheels better than the Grant.
