Dome override gives power to cargo light when activated?

Apologies for the wrong thread. And yes, you are correct, grounded is the key word here.

Dome override gives power to cargo light when activated?

I think it's back feeding from the white ground wire that is connected to the courtesy light system. When I take the cargo light bulbs out, the power goes away. A solution is to cut this white wire (and not the other white wire that is for the high mount brake lights) and ground it so the cargo...

Dome override gives power to cargo light when activated?

1997 GMC k1500 My cargo light is getting 12 volts power when the cargo light switch is off and when the dome override button is pressed/activated. I have confirmed that the cargo light switch works. When the dome override button is not activated, the switch controls on off power correctly...

Strange. YouTube vids mentioned above show the opposite, telescoping end towards the front.

    Very interesting and clever. Thanks!

Additional info that is very useful. Will look into this to prevent cutting/ molesting the original wiring harnesses. Thanks for this. However, this method is more easily detectable by a thief as they can see the fuse tap in the fuse location.

Purple wire going from the crank fuse to the a/t range switch it is, and NOT the purple wire from the starter relay going to the starter that is located in the underhood fuse panel for anyone still on the fence (although this could be done but more risky). Thanks again for the great info, I try...

So before or after the fuse is where we start to make our decision in which wire to use. In short, I guess you can cut the yellow wire that goes to the fuse and add a toggle switch, but this is thicker. Pardon my ignorance, but does cutting the yellow wire prevent the fuse from working if the...

Amazing, I like this approach. Great write-up. I agree that the feed side of a relay that delivers power to the component, like a fuel pump or starter motor, is a riskier venture as these wires are thicker for carrying more power. Interfering with the red and purple wire highlighted in the...

    Kill switch, 1997 k1500 pickup

Ok, makes sense since the thick wire comes from the battery, whereas the signal wire is in the dash.

Thanks. To clarify, you mean the power wire going to the starter which is of thicker gauge, or the signal wire that goes to the starter?

Yes, I see what you are saying. Good thing about the fuel shutting off mid drive is the truck will stop. Thieves may just ditch it there. With the spark, if the switch does fail the truck isn't going anywhere, in addition, there is always current running in that switch and is a higher risk for...

Yes, another good suggestion. Could this potential flood the engine with fuel/ other drawbacks? Benefits of this method? Ok, will look for the power wire with ign on that goes to the ignition coil. There are three wires I believe, I think it might be pink?. White goes to the tach input, white...

    Kill switch, 1997 k1500 pickup

Yes, good point about the oil pressure building up while cranking, and once it reaches a certain pressure, it bypasses the relay. Therefore, the grey wire that comes from the fuel pump relay and travels to and powers the fuel pump may be the wire to splice. Even if someone cranks and cranks...

    Kill switch, 1997 k1500 pickup

Hello, I was thinking of adding a kill switch by interrupting the power between the computer and the fuel pump relay, which I believe is a dark green and white stripe wire. This dark green and white stripe wire is one of five wires going to the fuel pump relay, correct if I am wrong please: 1...
